What Zenus Bank actually is

Zenus is licensed as an international bank in Puerto Rico, a US territory, and regulated by OCIF. That makes it one of very few genuine banks that will open a US account for a non-resident remotely, with no US entity and no US visit.

Because it is an international banking entity, protection differs from a standard FDIC-insured US bank, and the product set is narrower than a full business bank.

Best for
Non-residents who need a real US account without a US company

Where it works well

  • A licensed bank, not an e-money provider
  • US account details for a non-resident with no US company
  • Remote onboarding with a debit card

Watch out for

  • Puerto Rico international bank licence, so cover differs from standard FDIC insurance
  • Monthly plan fee with no free option
  • Narrower feature set than a full business bank

Who can open it

  • Individuals and companies from most countries, with a sanctions and high-risk exclusion list
  • No US entity, US address or US tax number required
  • Source of funds evidence for the expected balance

Documents to prepare

  • Certificate of incorporation and company registry extract
  • Passport and proof of address for every director and owner above 25%
  • Description of the business, customers and expected monthly volumes
  • Passport verified by video or selfie
  • Source of funds evidence such as payslips, financials or a sale contract
